Sports Ground Management Plan review

Sports grounds are integral to the city’s collective health and social cohesion. Dunedin’s sports grounds also contribute to the overall attractiveness and green character of the city.

The DCC owns and maintains 50 outdoor sports grounds. They include 156 grass playing fields and 4 artificial surfaces. These are developed, maintained and managed to ensure the city’s various sports codes have reliable and equitable access to games and practice times.

We are interested in your thoughts on what is currently working well and what could be improved. How do you think this important resource should be protected, enjoyed, and cared for in the future?

FAQs

  • Why is the DCC doing a management plan for Dunedin’s Sports Grounds?

The projects aims to manage demand at our Sports Grounds and provide guidelines for safe and equitable use.

  • What happens to public feedback?

It will be used to develop a draft Sports Grounds Management Plan.

  • What are the next steps?

This is the first stage of engagement. Findings will be reported back to the Council later in 2026. A draft plan (written and visual) will be developed from the feedback. During stage two (timing tbc), we’ll ask for people’s views on the draft plan. We’ll go back to the community and stakeholders with engagement results of both stages.
