Dunedin City Council – Kaunihera-a-rohe o Otepoti

Where to park, where not to park, what to do if you get a parking infringement, parking permits and more.

Dunedin City Council (DCC) provides road users with fair and reasonable parking options. We aim to make it as simple as possible for all road users to find the information they need to park legally, and hopefully, find a parking space that suits their needs.

We are responsible for:

  • Vehicles that might be abandoned.
  • The disposal of unwanted vehicles.
  • The enforcement of the conditions for commercial use of footpaths in conjunction with the Trading in Public Places Bylaw.
  • Dealing with illegally parked vehicles.

We aim to ensure:

  • Vehicles are parked safely, correctly and in accordance with the law.
  • Roads are kept clear to enable the free flow of traffic.
  • On- street parking is used fairly.
  • Drivers park in the desired manner.
  • Businesses comply with the conditions for commercial use of footpaths in conjunction with the Trading in Public Places Bylaw.

To do this, we sometimes issue parking infringements to those who are not following the rules. These rules are clearly explained through clear signage in specific areas.
