The Dunedin City District Plan (2006) is the current operative district plan. It contains objectives, policies and rules to manage effects of land use activities on the environment. This includes the rules that state whether any change of land use or new development is permitted or required a resource consent.
As of 19 August 2024, the proposed Dunedin City Second Generation District Plan (2GP) was made partially operative except for specific provisions and identified areas still subject to appeal. For provisions and areas still subject to appeal, the Dunedin City District Plan 2006 must also be considered. For more information on the 2GP see the 2gp.dunedin.govt.nz website.
