Moana Pool redevelopment

Moana Pool which opened in 1964 is undergoing ongoing refurbishment due to aging buildings, facilities and equipment.

Upgrades completed to date include:

  • Seismic strengthening to the main pool hall wall facing Stuart Street.
  • Roof and ceiling refurbishment between the main and leisure pools.
  • Insulated cladding installed to the main pool hall wall facing Stuart Street.
  • Window replacement in the leisure and dive/lap pools.
  • Ventilation upgrades.
  • New fire alarm and emergency lighting systems.
  • Refurbishment of the hydroslides including new flooring for the slide ramp, repairs and painting to the tube’s exterior.
  • Improved family change rooms with accessible options.
  • Refreshed interior finishes, including a new tiled design by our mana whenua partners Aukaha.

Further upgrades are planned as part of the refurbishment programme, including:

  • Heat recovery system replacement and air handler unit refurbishments.
  • Glazing replacement above the bleachers in the main pool hall.
  • Refurbishment of the passenger lift.
  • Building Management System (BMS) upgrade.

The current Moana Pool redevelopment workstream is expected to be completed in 2028. We will continue to minimise disruption wherever possible and thank pool users for their patience while this work is carried out.
