Parking at sportsgrounds

Dunedin City Council is working to improve safety at our sportsgrounds as we regularly receive complaints about illegal and dangerous parking that is putting everyone at risk. This includes double parking, parking on grass verges, yellow lines, traffic islands and across driveways.

We’re continuing a programme of work at sportsgrounds to provide more parking, five minute drop off/pick up parks, mobility parks, better pedestrian access and lighting, cycle stands and concrete barriers around sportsgrounds to prevent parking on grass.

We’ve also asked sports clubs to discuss with their members the need for safer parking at sportsgrounds.

Safe parking

During the sports season please:

  • Park safely
  • Watch out for children and people on bikes and on foot
  • Don’t double park or park on grass verges, broken yellow lines, traffic islands or ‘no stopping’ areas
  • Don’t block driveways, footpaths, shared paths or cycle lanes
  • Don’t park closer than six metres from an intersection
  • Park in cul-de-sacs in a way that allows vehicles to turn
  • Get an adult to fetch a match ball if it goes on the road.
