Parking at sportsgrounds

The Dunedin City Council (DCC) manages 52 sportsgrounds that are used year-round for a wide range of sports and events. Parking availability varies by location and event.

Sports season in Ōtepoti Dunedin means our sportsgrounds are busier than usual, and it’s important that everybody parks safely and considerately at all times. The DCC is committed to improving safety at our sportsgrounds, and we keep in contact with sports clubs about ensuring members are aware of the need to park safely at the grounds.

How to park safely at sportsgrounds

  • Watch out for children and people on bikes and on foot, especially when backing out of parking spaces
  • Drive slowly to the speed limit
  • Park in cul-de-sacs in a way that allows vehicles to turn
  • Don’t double park or park on grass verges, broken yellow lines, traffic islands or ‘no stopping’ areas
  • Keep driveways, footpaths, shared paths and cycle lanes clear
  • Don’t park closer than 6m from an intersection.

Illegal parking at sportsgrounds

We regularly receive reports of illegal and unsafe parking that puts everyone at risk. If you see a vehicle parked in an illegal or unsafe way, let us know by calling 03 477 4000.

Sportsgrounds with designated parking

Some, but not all, of our sportsgrounds have designated parking areas. Other sportsgrounds only offer on-street parking. You can view the full list of our sportsgrounds and their parking facilities visit the Sportsgrounds webpage.
