Dog refunds and updates

If your details or your dog's details have changed, please let us know as soon as possible.

Changing your details

A change may include:

  • Change of owner of the dog
  • Change of address of the dog (either with the same owner or new owner)
  • Recent desexing (neutering)
  • Additional distinguishing marks such as tattoos and scars
  • The death or loss of a dog or transfer to a new district.
  • Add or update Microchip number

You can update your details your details using our dog information update form.

If your dog dies

If your dog dies you may be eligible for a refund for the remainder of the year. Please apply on the animal services dog refund application form or by visiting one of our Customer Services Centres.

Refunds are available only from the date of application (not from the date your dog died). We don’t grant refunds for dogs that have been lost, stolen or have changed owners or district within New Zealand or if the dog is relocated overseas. Please return the registration tag or disc if requested.

If you are due a refund

If you have overpaid a fee or registered your dog more than once, you can apply for a refund using the animal services dog refund application form or by visiting one of our Customer Services Centres.
