Profile
John was born and educated in Glasgow a graduated as a doctor in 1978. After training in surgery and emergency care he emigrated to New Zealand in 1993 to take up the position as head of the ED at Dunedin hospital. John is married to Susanne and lives on the Otago Peninsula. They have three adult children and seven grandchildren, with a daughter in Dunedin and two sons living overseas in Australia and Germany.
For 30 years working in the hospital, he persistently advocated for better facilities and staffing and acted as an Otago senior doctor union representative for two decades. He served on the Southern District Health Board twice. This experience in governance was positive and educational, working alongside skilled colleagues. He is looking forward to working as a Councillor and contributing across the many areas of responsibility to help Dunedin City and people flourish.
