Working on our roads

There is a range of legislation that applies to the management and use of roads and footpaths in Dunedin. The key ones include: Roading bylaw and Parking and Traffic bylaw. If you are planning any work within the road corridor, you may need a Corridor Access Request and/or a Traffic Management Plan.

You will need to apply for a permit if you require a parking area near a demolition, construction, or building zone to be designated as a construction zone parking area for vehicles, or you want to place a skip or a shipping container on a public road.

A Corridor Access Request (CAR) notifies us of any proposed work in the road corridor in the Dunedin City Council area.

Any person or organisation carrying out work or other activities on Council roads is required to prepare and submit to Council a traffic management plan.
