Driving requires your full attention; you need to control your vehicle while being aware of your surroundings and looking out for potential hazards. Distraction is a common factor in many crashes.

A two-second distraction can significantly increase the likelihood of a crash. A distraction is anything that diverts your attention away from concentrating on driving, whether it’s taking your eyes off the road, your hands off the wheel, being distracted by noises or your mind wandering off. All these distractions divert your attention from driving.
Some of the biggest distractions are:
- Mobile phone use
- Music and GPS devices
- Food and drink
- Passengers including children and dogs
- Reaching for objects
To be a safe driver, give driving all your attention and park your distractions.
