DCC Arts Grants

DCC Arts grants are available to support the costs of running community arts activities that foster local involvement, content, and participation in the wider community.

This type of funding is about engaging people in meaningful,creative ways, and providing chances for people to actively participate in arts, cultural, and creative opportunities in Ōtepoti.

Application Deadlines

5.00pm on the last Friday of March (for projects starting after 31 May)

5.00pm on Sunday 28 September (for projects starting after 30 November)

Who can apply?

Not-for-profit groups or organisations can apply; individuals or groups that are not legal entities may apply under an umbrella organisation.

To be eligible for this grant, your arts project must:

  • take place within Dunedin
  • benefit local communities in Dunedin
  • not have started or finished before funding is approved
  • be completed within 12 months of funding being approved
  • for March applications, projects must start after 31 May
  • for September applications, projects must start after 30 November

Please note that your organisation may only receive ONE of the following DCC-funded grants per year:

  • Arts
  • Community
  • Small Arts Project
  • Community Events
  • Small Community Project
  • Professional Theatre Fund

Funding Criteria

To be eligible for funding, your group or organisation must:

  • seek to achieve the objectives of Ara Toi Otepoti - Our Creative Future: Dunedin's Arts and Culture Strategy.
  • be well established in its primary activity of arts and cultural development in Dunedin, or;
  • be a well-established group with demonstrated knowledge of how a project will contribute to arts and cultural development in Dunedin.
  • have a significant level of community interaction.

Your arts project or initiative must:

  • demonstrate clear benefits for the community.
  • promote and advance arts and cultural development in Dunedin
  • increase awareness of and participation in arts and creative cultural activity.
  • not be part of the group’s usual activities except for special circumstances.
  • support and encourage local involvement or content.

How much are the grants?

The Dunedin City Council has an annual budget of $50,500 for DCC Arts Grants. While you can apply for up to $5,000, typical awards are mostly around $3,000.
