The SBCG was formed in 2006 as a way of collaborating between individual Councils to combine ideas and resources and form a regional approach towards regulatory processes under the Building Act 2004.
Key people from the 11 Councils in the SBCG (Timaru to Southland) meet regularly to discuss shared issues, promote good practice and exchange knowledge and expertise.

Shared Forms
To ensure some consistency in the building consent process most Councils within the SBCG have agreed to use the same format on some of the forms prescribed by legislation. This means these shared forms can be submitted with applications to Councils within the SBCG.
Check with individual Councils first to make sure they will accept the shared form and for information about their lodgement requirements.

Producer Statements
A producer statement is a statement completed by suitably qualified and experienced designers or building professionals confirming the design or construction has been completed in accordance with certain provisions of the New Zealand Building Code.
Council only issues a building consent or a code compliance certificate if it is reasonably satisfied the building work complies (or will comply) with the building code. Producer statements help with the decision.
You need to check the Councils requirements relating to producer statements. If the author of the producer statement has to be registered and approved by the SBCG an application can be made using the form below. Applications are submitted to building@dcc.govt.nz.
Producer Statement Authors Register
Check the SBCG Producer Statement Authors register to establish if the author is currently approved.
