Danny Hailes

I’m Otago born and bred. Married to Sarah, we have two adult sons and are grandparents to twin granddaughters.

Growing up in Dunedin, I attended the University of Otago graduating LLB (Hons) and am a qualified lawyer. Over the past 30 years, I have built a career spanning the corporate legal and agri-business sectors, including having held senior executive roles in New Zealand’s meat export industry. My experience includes advocacy, governance, and leadership across various regions.

Based in Blueskin Bay, I now combine part-time consulting with active involvement in several local community volunteer groups and the ongoing development of a rural property including native bush regeneration. I enjoy working for the Waikouaiti coast community and advocating for our community's interests. Our diversity of people and outstanding natural environment are key strengths. I look forward to working hard for the community and doing my best to help get things done.
