About Good Food Dunedin
Vision and Leadership
Good Food Dunedin is a Dunedin City Council-led initiative, supported by individuals, communities, organisations and businesses who share a vision to transform Dunedin into a thriving and sustainable food city.
Goals and Objectives
Led by the Dunedin City Council’s Economic Development unit, Good Food Dunedin (GFD) strives to create a resilient, equitable, sustainable, and innovative local food system. Our mission is to nurture the mauri (life force) of both people and land, positively impacting the economic, environmental, cultural, and social aspects of Dunedin.

Key Partnerships
Māori Partnerships
Good Food Dunedin collaborates closely with the Dunedin City Council’s Māori Partnerships team. This team strengthens our ability to fulfill obligations and commitments to te Tiriti o Waitangi through partnerships with mana whenua. The Māori Strategic Framework guides our work to align with mana whenua priorities and aspirations.
Zero Carbon Initiative
In June 2019, the Dunedin City Council declared a climate emergency and set an ambitious city-wide ‘Zero Carbon 2030’ goal. The Zero Carbon team is developing a plan to help achieve this target, focusing on reducing emissions from agriculture, waste, and transportation. Our food system plays a crucial role in this effort, as up to 40% of Dunedin’s emissions come from the agriculture sector.

Food Waste - KiwiHarvest
KiwiHarvest rescues quality perishable food, from organisations such as supermarkets and bakeries, that would otherwise be destined for the landfill. They redirect it to charitable organisations, which then pass it on to people in need. If you’re a business that would like to explore donating food to KiwiHarvest, check out the KiwiHarvest website.
