Dunedin City Council – Kaunihera-a-rohe o Otepoti

Wayne (Blackdog) Sefton

I moved to Port Chalmers from Auckland in 1985, purchasing Mackies Hotel with the intention of growing the business for a couple of years and moving on.

Forty years later I am still here.  I fell in love with the place and the people – including marrying a local girl. My wife and I have six adult children, one boy and five girls.

I have had various other hospitality and business interests around Dunedin over the years but have never lost sight of the fact that West Harbour, and especially Port Chalmers, is home.

I have over 20 years’ governance experience serving as a board of trustee member for St. Joseph's Primary School, Port Chalmers.

I am highly active in the West Harbour Community, both personally and through Mackies Hotel.  Mackies Hotel has been the local RSA since 1988.

I am proud of and invested in my community.

I enjoyed my first three years as an elected West Harbour Community Board Member and learned a great deal from a lot of experienced people.  I hope we can continue to achieve results that are good for our community going forward; it won’t be from a lack of trying.
