Water Services in Ōtepoti Dunedin

Whether it’s drinking water from the tap, taking a shower, flushing the toilet, or managing stormwater during heavy rain, Dunedin's water services help keep our city healthy, safe and functioning.

The Dunedin City Council’s 3 Waters team manages three key water services across the Dunedin region - water supply, wastewater, and stormwater. Its remit is to plan, operate and maintain the infrastructure that delivers these three essential services. This includes collecting and treating water, maintaining pipes and reservoirs, responding to faults and leaks, protecting public health, and planning for future growth and environmental challenges.

This work is supported by a network that includes 21,000 hectares of water catchment, six water treatment stations, 35 pumping stations, and 57 reservoirs that store raw and treated water. We also manage approximately 1,450 kilometres of pipes, including 174 kilometres that carry raw water to treatment plants and storage reservoirs.

3 Waters is a department within DCC, and meets the requirements of the Local Water Done Well  government reform.
