The Dunedin City Council administers a number of heritage awards with its heritage partners in Dunedin, to recognise excellence and innovation in the re-use and conservation of heritage buildings across the city.
These awards recognise a range of people involved in heritage re-use, including building owners, developers, conservation professionals, heritage advocates, project managers and engineers. The DCC also aims to run a student design competition aimed at encouraging young designers to apply their skills to heritage projects.
The winners of these awards and competitions are recognised at the biennial Dunedin Heritage Re-use Awards ceremony, usually held in March. The date and format of the next Heritage Awards has not been set. An update will be provided once this is confirmed.
The ultimate award - the Outstanding Heritage Re-use Award - is chosen by the judges from all the award entries for that year.
The current award categories are:
- Outstanding Heritage Re-Use Award
- Dunedin City Council Heritage Streetscape Award
- Pam Jordan Services to Heritage Award
- Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Heritage Conservation Award
- Oakwood Properties Earthquake Strengthening Award
- Otago Polytechnic School of Design Interior Architecture Award
