About this track

This 32km Loop follows the edge of the Otago Harbour. With a ferry terminal at Port Chalmers to Portobello, users of the trail can start at any number of locations and complete the loop.

The Otago Boat Harbour has mobility parking located at the northern end of the reserve and provides improved mobility access to the track at this location of the cycleway.

Directions

There are number of locations around the harbour for access to the cycleway. We recommend the Otago Boat Harbour Carpark, Back Beach carpark at Port Chalmers and the Bayfield Playground Carpark for reliable parking throughout the week.

Bus Routes to Portobello (Route 18) and Port Chalmers (Route 14) provide options if you opt to start out along West Harbour or Peninsula ends.

Know before you go:

Public toilets can be found at the following locations: Portobello by the playground, Broad Bay by the Boating Club, Macandrew Bay Community Hall, Dunedin at the base of Steamer Basin, Port Chalmers main street, near the service station, Back Beach at Port Chalmers, and Otago Boat Harbour Reserve at the Otago Yacht Club.

It can be exposed along the harbour- make sure you’re prepared with wind resistant clothing and adequate water!

Dogs

Dogs on leash are permitted on the Harbour Cycleway.
