| Information | Dunedin’s Town Belt covers 202 hectares across several hill suburbs and is the city’s most high-profile reserve. It is one of only three Victorian Town Belts in the world, established in 1848. We asked residents in the wider Dunedin area to provide feedback on the future of the Town Belt. This feedback – gathered from two consultation stages in 2024 and 2025 – has helped shape the final plan. The Plan outlines our role in the current and future planning, development and management of the Dunedin Town Belt. It allows us to respond to our community’s changing needs, introduce best practice models and trends, and ensure efficient and effective use of the area. Engagement data received in March 2024 shows that community priorities have evolved since the 2007 Plan, with increased focus on biodiversity, zero-carbon goals, and safer transport outcomes that promote walking and cycling. The Plan has been updated to reflect this feedback and includes new content recognising mana whenua history and values, ensuring these are embedded within the ongoing care and management of the Dunedin Town Belt. Arthur Street Cemetery, Belleknowes Golf and Croquet Clubs, Cosy Dell, Jubilee Park, Littlebourne Ground, Moana Pool, Montecillo Ground, Mornington Park, Northern Cemetery, Opoho Park, Prospect Park, Roberts Park, Robin Hood Park, Southern Cemetery, the Oval, Unity Park and Woodhaugh Gardens. It includes 22 sports grounds. |
