Strong Wind Warning – Orange - Otago

MetService New Zealand has issued a Strong Wind Warning in Otago. It predicts severe gale-force north westerlies blowing at up to 130 km/h in exposed places from tomorrow morning and throughout the day (Thursday).
Residents are asked to secure or bring inside objects that can be picked up or broken by strong winds, and remove any debris or loose items from around their property. Driving may be difficult (especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles), so drivers are advised to take care and avoid travelling unless necessary.
Avoid parks, reserves and wooded areas.
There is the possibility of damage to trees, powerlines, and structures or buildings during gale-force winds. Staff will be monitoring the situation and responding as necessary.
There may be disruption to kerbside collections. Please use bin latches to help keep lids in place in case waste and recycling bins are blown over. Consider putting bins out on the next fortnightly collection day if they are not full or don’t need urgently collected.
