Have your say – changes to Dunedin’s Water Restriction levels

The DCC actively manages its water supplies to balance community demand with available resources, but temporary water restrictions may sometimes be needed during extreme weather events or operational emergencies to continue to meet essential water needs.

The Policy identifies outdoor water uses and activities that are restricted when Dunedin is impacted by water shortages.

The proposed changes are designed to make the Policy easier to understand, but the DCC welcomes community feedback in making the final plan.

In line with other councils across New Zealand, the DCC is suggesting the following changes:

• Including voluntary restrictions in the framework and outlining the details of Level 4 restrictions
• Changing the timeframes of limited outdoor water activities to between 6am - 8pm, rather than 8am – 8pm
• Adding alternate day restrictions to Level 2
• Allowing watering of vegetable gardens via handheld hose or watering can at all levels, except Level 4.

Are these the right changes for Dunedin? If not, what changes (if any) should there be instead? The DCC wants to hear all the public’s thoughts.
