Te Puna o Whakaehu complex, Mosgiel, has a leisure pool for recreational play for children, a dedicated learners’ pool, mainly used for swimming lessons, and a 25m pool with eight lanes for swimming.
There are spaces for rehabilitation, relaxation and physiotherapy. It has a hydrotherapy pool, which is warmer than the other pools, and a spa which is even warmer. There is ramp access into every pool and two accessible changing rooms.
It has some cool toys, including big inflatables put up during school holidays.
The community can use the meeting room at the complex and the carpark has 80 carparks, as well as e-vehicle and e-bike charging stations.
The complex is located at 215 Gordon Road at the western end of Memorial Park, on the same site as the old Mosgiel Pool.
History of Te Puna o Whakaehu
The new facility replaces a pool originally built in the 1930s, called the Taieri Baths. It was converted to a heated pool in 1967, covered in 1982 and was only open seven months of the year. The new facility is open year-round and has been designed to suit the needs of Mosgiel’s growing population.
It was a joint project between the DCC and the Taieri Community Facilities Trust.

Public holiday hours
The pool is open from 9.30am to 5pm. There are no group fitness classes or Just Swim lessons on public holidays.
- The pool is closed on Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Good Friday
- The pool is open from 1pm to 7pm on Anzac Day.
Kid’s stuff
The pool has a leisure and a learn to swim pool with depths suited to younger children. The leisure pool includes a wet deck/toddler area and there are water features which sprinkle out water.
Toys
There are several flotation boards including foam rings, ghosties and turtle mats. Staff may put up inflatables in the weekends and school holiday.

Multiple providers offer learn to swim or swimming progression lessons.

Te Puna o Whakaehu swim shop
Te Puna o Whakaehu has a swim shop offering a small range of swimwear, swim accessories and water toys.
Our selection of goggles features styles that cater for the junior to the elite swimmer and everything in between. There are also sample goggles available to try in the shop to ensure you find the best fit possible before purchasing.
Zoggs and Speedo branded swimwear that cater for men, women, boys and girls are available to purchase. Our sizes range from toddler size 2 up to men’s size 22 and women’s size 26 with a select range of different styles to choose from.
Women’s swimwear range includes: one piece, shorts, maternity, open water and modesty suits.
Men’s swimwear range includes briefs, aqua shorts, jammers and water shorts.
As normal nappies are not appropriate for the pool and not allowed, “Little Swimmers” nappies are available to purchase from Reception in 3 different sizes, suitable for babies and toddlers. They are designed with an absorbent material to prevent swelling in the water.
