3 Waters maintenance contract to deliver certainty

A new $145 million, 10-year maintenance contract awarded to Citycare Water will deliver certainty for the maintenance of Dunedin’s water infrastructure at a time of rising competition, the Dunedin City Council says.

DCC Chief Executive Sandy Graham and Citycare Water Acting Chief Executive Gareth Husband have signed a new Network Maintenance 3 Waters contract, which extends Citycare Water’s working relationship with the DCC for another decade.

Ms Graham says, “This new contract allows Citycare Water to continue its good work across Dunedin, and gives both parties certainty to plan effectively for the long-term maintenance needs of Ōtepoti Dunedin’s water network.

“We received high quality tenders for the contract, and we’re pleased to secure a proven partner in an environment where new water entities are competing for similar services. This is a great outcome for Dunedin, Citycare Water and the DCC.”

Citycare Water Acting Chief Executive Gareth Husband says, “We’re delighted to have secured this contract and to be able to continue our longstanding relationship with Dunedin City Council.

“Our local team takes pride in the work they do across Dunedin, and this new contract is a testament to the work they do every day. We are excited to keep doing what we do best – delivering innovative and reliable solutions for Ōtepoti’s infrastructure needs, great service, and ultimately healthy and reliable water, wastewater and stormwater systems for the people who live here.”

The new contract begins 1 July 2026.
