Coastal works

In order to take care of our dynamic and beautiful coastline within the district, it is vital to monitor the coastal changes. This gives us an opportunity to study the coast better and come up with the right type of plan and strategy to address issues.

This page gives an overview of the coastal projects delivered through the Transport group including: the coastal monitoring program, short to medium term maintenance of coastal structures, emergency coastal protection works, etc.

The services include:

  • Structural Maintenance: We have been managing coastal structures such as the St Clair seawall by monitoring their condition. Our actions include, but are not limited to, rock revetment replenishment, repair and reinstatement of geobags (sand sausages) and sand nourishment where necessary.
  • Coastal Monitoring Programs: We have been monitoring coastal processes, collecting data on shoreline dynamics, sediment transport, and wave climate to inform long-term decision making. CoastSnap and Spotter Wave Buoys are our latest efforts.
