Janice Fredric appointed Chair of Aurora Energy

Ms Fredric succeeds Steve Thompson, who announced earlier this year that he would step down at the end of September after ten years as Chair.

DCHL Chair Tim Loan said Ms Fredric was exceptionally well placed to take on the role.

“Janice has served on the Aurora Energy Board since 2022 and currently chairs the company’s Audit and Risk Committee, giving her a deep and current understanding of the business, its strategy, and the challenges and opportunities ahead,” Mr Loan said.

“She is an experienced professional director who sits on a number of other boards and serves as Chancellor of Lincoln University. She brings to the Chair role a wealth of governance experience, financial acumen and strategic insight, and her established knowledge of Aurora means she will provide continuity and stability from day one.”

Ms Fredric says, “I've had the privilege of serving on the Aurora Energy board since 2022, so I come to the role of Chair with a clear view of both the progress made and the work still ahead. The board's job is to make sure we keep making sound, well-evidenced investment decisions over long term horizons, and that customers see the benefit of them.”

Mr Loan said the appointment came at an important moment for both the energy sector and for Aurora Energy.

“Janice takes up the role as Aurora positions the business to support the energy transition across the region and to deliver for electricity consumers. The company has a clear strategy, a capable team, and a network in better shape than it has been in a generation.”

Mr Loan paid tribute to Mr Thompson’s decade of service.

“Steve has led the Aurora Energy Board through one of the most significant periods in the company’s history,” he said. “Over the past decade he has steered the business through the challenges of historical underinvestment, the Customised Price-Quality Path, and an intensive programme of network renewal — and out the other side into a position of genuine strength and sector leadership.

“His commitment to doing right by consumers and communities has shaped the organisation Aurora is today. On behalf of DCHL, I want to thank Steve for his outstanding service and the enormous contribution he has made, and wish him all the very best.”

Mr Loan said the smooth transition from Mr Thompson to Ms Fredric reflected the maturity and stability of the organisation.

“DCHL is confident that under Janice’s leadership the Aurora Energy Board will continue to support the company to deliver on its commitments to consumers and the role it is playing in shaping the sector’s future direction.”
