New café to open at Dunedin Botanic Garden

A new café is opening at the Dunedin Botanic Garden.

The Dunedin City Council’s Dunedin Botanic Garden team has worked closely with the owners of ADJO café, Caitlin Holloway and Jonas Hansen, whose new operation will be called Aster.

Following a “soft” opening yesterday, Thursday 14 May, Aster will officially open to the public tomorrow, Saturday 16 May.

DCC Group Manager Parks and Recreation Heath Ellis says, “We look forward to having an awesome hospitality business open at our much-loved Dunedin Botanic Garden.”

“We took the opportunity to refurbish the site following the closure of the previous café in mid-2025. The new design breathes a fresh, modern life into the space while complementing its surrounds.”

“We are excited to have secured an experienced and innovative food and beverage hospitality provider that can cater to a diverse audience, including tourists, families, students and many other members of our community,” Mr Ellis says.

“We are confident the café owners will provide a great dining experience for our visitors. We believe the café will be a bright, warm and welcoming atmosphere for all.”
