Decisions from today’s DCC meeting

Parking changes approved after public consultation

The DCC has approved a range of changes to parking restrictions today, resulting in the net removal of three restricted car parks and 13 unrestricted car parks and a change of restriction on 25 parks.

The changes were proposed by the Hearings Committee and presented in three parts.

Some minor general parking changes incorporates changes arising from requests from the public and businesses along with some safety and infrastructure changes.

Additional changes focused on enabling school safety improvements in South Dunedin, and corrected parking restrictions to ensure that the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database matches the parking controls on the ground.

During the consultation process, plans for a mobility park on Dunbar Street across from the entrance to the Ōtepoti Dunedin District Court changed. Transport staff developed an alternative proposal to install a two-hour mobility park near 1 Stuart Street, replacing one paid sixty-minute park.

The alternative was met with support from many of the community, including the Ōtepoti Dunedin District Court.

Submissions received during consultation from owners of residences and businesses, are available to at Item 13, Attachment C of the Agenda of Council - Thursday, 29 October 2026.

In South Dunedin, proposed improvements included improved intersections, new roundabouts, and safer crossings with positive impacts for St Clair School, St Bernadette’s School, Carisbrook School, Bathgate School, and King’s High School and Queen’s High School.

More information about these specific safety measures is available online: South Dunedin School Safety Improvements - Dunedin City Council. The work is scheduled for completion by June 2027.

The changes will be implemented through appropriate signs and road markings and restrictions will be enforced under the Traffic and Parking Bylaw.

Councillors voted to approve the changes with no votes against recorded.

Three items from today's meeting - discussing Community Rangers, the prioritisation and funding of seal extensions, and Caversham Tunnel access for the Dunedin Tunnels Trail - will now be discussed at the next Council meeting on 5 November 2026.
