Consultations and submissions agreed at today’s DCC meeting

Alcohol Bylaw

Consultation on the Alcohol (Control of Alcohol in Public Places) Bylaw 2004 (the Bylaw) will ask the community, in particular Dunedin’s student population, for its thoughts on retain the central city alcohol ban and introduce a permanent alcohol ban in the Logan Park sports hub area.

The Bylaw gives Council with the power to make temporary restrictions, for example a planned public event, and is enforced by the Police.

All councillors at the meeting, (Mayor Barker, Cr Chambers, Cr Galer, Cr Garey, Cr Hall, Cr Lucas, Cr Laufiso, Cr Lund, Cr Mayhem, Cr Ong, Cr Simms, Cr Treadwell, Cr Vandervis, Cr Walker, Cr Weatherall) voted for the Bylaw to be put to public consultation.

Residential Tenancies Bill submission

Councillors were also asked to retrospectively approve a submission made to central government on the Social Services and Community Committee (the Committee) on the Residential Tenancies (Registration of Boarding House Landlords) Bill.

Council had been approached by the Select Committee to submit on the Bill, and Councillor Treadwell spoke to this submission at oral hearings last month. The Bill asked government to create and maintain a register of boarding houses and boarding house landlords.

Retrospective approval for the submission was agreed by all councillors except Cr Vandervis.

Mayor Barker, Cr Chambers, Cr Galer, Cr Garey, Cr Hall, Cr Lucas, Cr Laufiso, Cr Lund, Cr Mayhem, Cr Ong, Cr Simms, Cr Treadwell, Cr Walker, and Cr Weatherall voted for the retrospective approval. Cr Vandervis voted against.

Hereweka Harbour Cone

Public consultation on the Draft Hereweka Harbour Cone Management Plan 2026 will be sought in the coming weeks.

Management plans are prepared to ensure activities within public land provide for the use, enjoyment, maintenance, protection, development and preservation of the land, as the case may require. The current Plan is 14-years-old.

Dunedin City Council bought the 328-hectare property on the Otago Peninsula in 2008 to protect its significant landscape, ecological, heritage and cultural values and in recognition of its potential recreational and tourist values.

A Hearings Committee will consider submissions on the Draft Plan and then make a recommendation to the Council.

Mayor Barker, Cr Chambers, Cr Galer, Cr Garey, Cr Hall, Cr Lucas, Cr Laufiso, Cr Lund, Cr Mayhem, Cr Ong, Cr Simms, Cr Treadwell, Cr Walker, and Cr Weatherall voted to progress public consultation. Cr Vandervis voted against.
