Expressions of Interest: Independent Representation Review Panel Members

Help shape how Dunedin is represented in the 2028 local elections.

The Dunedin City Council is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to serve on an Independent Representation Review Panel.

The Panel will provide independent advice and recommendations to Council as part of the statutory Representation Review process. The review will consider matters such as ward boundaries, community board arrangements, and elected member representation to ensure Dunedin's representation arrangements remain fair, effective, and responsive to its communities.

Panel members will be appointed for a six-month period from November 2026 to April 2027 and will be expected to attend panel meetings, review background information, consider community views, and contribute to recommendations to Council. The role is not full-time; however, members must be available throughout the review period to undertake meeting preparation, public meetings, review material, and attend panel meetings as required.

We are interested in hearing from people with experience in governance, local government, law, public policy, planning, community engagement, electoral matters, or other relevant fields. Applicants should demonstrate sound judgement, independence, and the ability to assess complex issues objectively.

To submit an expression of interest, please provide:

• A brief statement outlining why you would like to be part of the Independent Representation Review Panel.
• Information about your background, experience, skills, and the perspective you would bring to the review process.
• Details of any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest.

Expressions of interest received will be considered by the Dunedin City Council on 29 October 2026.
