Growth project - Waitati to Doctors Point Watermain

This project will deliver new water infrastructure to support residential development in the area. All new pipework will be installed within road verges or footpaths in accordance with Dunedin City Council standards, with connections designed to improve network resilience, maintain service to existing properties, and support future growth. Construction is planned to start in Waitati, from the Pitt Street and Harvey Street intersection, and then along Pitt Street, Brown Street and then Doctors Point Road to just past the the railway crossing on Doctors Point Road. The project will start at the end of April 2026 with the overall project being completed by September 2026.

Construction Methodology:

  • This work is set to commence from the 27th April 2026 and involves the construction of a new 180mm watermain that will connect the new resedential developments to the existing public network. It will be installed primarily by drilling, to minimise disruption to the public, and will connect to the existing water mains, improving reliability and future capacity.

We will work with the contractor to minimise disruption to residents where possible. However, the work will involve traffic management, including some temporary one-way closures managed with 'stop/go' or traffic lights when required, and water shutdowns when the new pipes are connected.
