Strong Wind Warning – Orange - Otago

MetService New Zealand has issued a Strong Wind Warning in Otago. It predicts severe gale-force north westerlies blowing at up to 130 km/h in exposed places from tomorrow morning and throughout the day (Thursday).
Residents are asked to secure or bring inside objects that can be picked up or broken by strong winds, and remove any debris or loose items from around their property. Driving may be difficult (especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles), so drivers are advised to take care and avoid travelling unless necessary.
Avoid parks, reserves and wooded areas.
There is the possibility of damage to trees, powerlines, and structures or buildings during gale-force winds. Staff will be monitoring the situation and responding as necessary.
There may be disruption to kerbside collections. Please use bin latches to help keep lids in place in case waste and recycling bins are blown over. Consider putting bins out on the next fortnightly collection day if they are not full or don’t need urgently collected.

Wastewater pump station renewals

There are 78 wastewater pump stations throughout Dunedin. These are vital to helping ensure sewage is pumped from our outlying suburbs to our treatment plants.

We are currently undertaking several packages of work to refurbish and improve the performance of these pump stations. This work can include replacing mechanical parts, increasing storage onsite to help reduce overflows and improving access / safety features for staff working at theses station, among other things.

The following list shows which pump stations are currently (or soon to be) under construction:

  • Brighton #6 (493 Brighton Road)
  • Brighton #2 (Brighton Caravan Park)
  • Broad Bay #5 (Portobello Rd – near Pineapple Rock)
  • East Harbour #3 (Macandrew Bay – after summer)
  • Burkes #3 (SH88 near Ruru Ave)
