ACKLIN Bill - Candidate profile

Affiliation: Independent
My principal place of residence is in the Dunedin City Council area.
Standing for Re-election
Councillor: 2004–2013, 2022–Present
I bring a common-sense approach to council and was elected to listen and act on what our community wants — as I promised three years ago. I’ve voted to retain public ownership of Aurora and our water assets and have opposed increasing debt for non-essential projects.
Reduced government funding has made the past two years particularly challenging. Now, more than ever, we must focus on economic growth — supporting local business, attracting investment, and retaining our skilled workforce. I believe in working with business, not subsidising it.
Core services matter. We need to protect the look, feel, and function of our city, while investing wisely and ensuring value for money. I also support a strong events calendar that benefits locals and brings in visitors.
My priorities: Lower rate increases; Stabilise debt; Grow our economy.
