About this track
A short track down to Allans Beach across privately owned farmland. Populated by fur seals, yellow eyed penguins and sea lions, Allans Beach is the perfect place for an afternoon escape. Dogs are not permitted on the eastern end of the beach but are allowed on the western end towards Sandymount.
Getting there
From Dunedin, drive down Portobello Road and turn off down Allans Beach Road. Follow Allans Beach Road until you come across the car park at the end.
Know before you go
Allans Beach is home to Sea Lions, Fur Seals and Yellow Eyed Penguins. A minimum distance of 10m must be kept from all native animals. In particular, if you see Yellow Eyed Penguins, please crouch down and allow them to move between their nests and the sea with as little disturbance as possible.
