About this track
From Mt Cargill Road, Grahams Bush Track drops down a well made staircase and into native bush. The top of the track the bush is primarily manuka but soon transitions into diverse secondary forest with large Rimu and Totara trees scattered throughout. Those with a botanical eye will notice unusual leaf variations in the Mountain Five Finger present in Grahams Bush as well as a wealth of ferns species. As you make your way down the track towards Port Chalmers, views of the valley and Otago Harbour will appear between gaps in the bush and you may even see bellbirds, tui and wood pigeons jumping around the tree tops.
Getting there
Grahams Bush Track can be accessed from either end with carparks at each. Mount Cargill Road is reached via North Road; Hall Road is off the Dunedin-Port Chalmers Road at Sawyers Bay. Both starting points are well signposted and easy to find.
Know before you go
After rainfall/ wet conditions, Grahams bush can become very muddy and slippery in places and a high degree of caution is recommended in the rocky parts of the track.
