Marlow Park learn to ride track

The learn to ride track at Dunedin’s Marlow Park (the dinosaur park) features a tunnel, faux river, bridge, traffic lights and a bike repair station.

Since the track was built in 2003, road safety infrastructure has changed. The facility was remodelled in 2021 to enable people to use updated, more relevant infrastructure to learn road rules on their bikes and scooters in a safe, fun environment without the pressure of traffic around them. It allows people to learn safely with family and friends.

It has electronic devices such as flashing lights and a touchless push button at a pedestrian crossing and a speed feedback sign, three types of intersections with stop and give way signs, a roundabout, raised and painted crossings, a roller coaster-type hilly section and a one-way stretch, road markings and signs, learning stations and new seating areas. The park is divided into two sections - a main track and a beginner’s area. It can be used by people of all ages and by scooters as well as bikes.

The $350,000 upgrade of the track was paid for by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s community road safety fund.
