The Dunedin City Council is conducting a survey on water services available to communities in Dunedin.
To support our survey, we need more information about drinking water, wastewater and stormwater services that are not provided by the DCC.
Drinking Water is water used for human consumption, oral hygiene, preparing food / drink and washing utensils that are used for eating and drinking, or for preparing, serving, or storing food or drink for human consumption.
Wastewater includes liquid wastes drained from toilets, kitchens, bathrooms, laundries etc.
Stormwater is all surface water run-off resulting directly or indirectly from rain / snow (e.g. runoff from roofs, roads and other hard surfaces).
This survey is part of a wider assessment that is required under section 125 of the LGA 2002. The wider assessment includes public toilets, cemeteries and crematoria.
However, this survey is only seeking feedback from communities that do not have drinking water, and/or wastewater and/or stormwater services provided by the DCC.
The survey runs from 1 November to 29 November 2024 and aims to provide an up-to-date “picture” of how communities currently access water.
Communities identified by the survey may be involved in further studies to consider future servicing. This may include assessments on technical and funding options.
However, the survey will not make recommendations on specific upgrades in communities, or how those upgrades would be funded.
While this survey is one opportunity to talk about water services, it won’t be the last. We need to have more conversations with our communities to help build a platform for future decision-making as we continue our long-term adaptive planning work.
We encourage you to take a few minutes to answer the short survey about water services at your property.
