We have finalised our Signal Hill Reserve Management Plan.
The 96.2 ha reserve includes a mountain biking area, a lookout offering panoramic views, large areas of native forest and remnants of an historic arboretum.
The plan aims to improve recreational opportunities for mountain bikers, walkers, trail runners, runners, orienteers and the wider community. This includes protecting view shafts and the biodiversity of the reserve by better managing vegetation and tracks to benefit reserve users. We also honour the cultural and mana whenua values through interpretation and storytelling projects.
We asked residents in the wider Dunedin area to provide feedback on the future of Signal Hill Reserve. This feedback – gathered from two consultation stages in 2021 and 2024 – has helped shape the final Plan, which will guide us in making good decisions about how the reserve is used and protected.

Why do we need a plan for the Signal Hill Reserve?
It will ensure theproper use, development, maintenance, protection and preservation of the reserve. It will allow us to respond to our community’s changing needs and introduce best practice models and trends.
