Locally, nationally and globally, our energy-voracious economies continue depleting Papatūānuku’s finite resources.
The lockdowns of Covid-19 provided us with an opportunity to break the paradigm and adopt ecological economics.
Having served as chair of the Community Services Committee, Grants Sub-Committee, Dunedin Former Refugees’ Steering Group and Social Wellbeing Advisory Group, I’ve learned that if enough of us respond to our whānauka in deep crisis, humanity can shine and rise to the challenges. We must all shine now. I am running for the position of Mayor to lead the city in urgently pulling together so that we come to terms with how we will care for and support one another as we prepare for inevitable economic and environmental collapse.
