Wingatui to Mosgiel pipeline

As part of the DCC 3 Waters capital works programme to replace pipes across the Dunedin area, work is underway to renew the water main that brings drinking water from Mt Grand to Mosgiel.

This work will help build resilience to our network, as the current pipe is the sole source of potable water to the Mosgiel area. We will also be increasing the size of the pipe to help supply Mosgiel with larger quantities of water as required to help lessen the need for water restrictions during particularly dry weather. This will be done in stages; the first stage will include Gladstone Road Nth (from approx. Paterson Road), part of Wingatui Road and along the Wingatui / Cedar Track, indicated in red on the image below::

Wingatui - Mosgiel pipeline

  • Stage One

The contract for the first stage of work was awarded to McConnell Dowell. Construction began on Monday 5 February 2024 and was completed in October 2024. Stage one is shown in red on the map.

  • Stage Two

The contract for Stage Two (shown in yellow on the map) was awarded to McConnell Dowell. Work commenced in October 2024 and is expected to be complete by April 2025. Work on Stage Two started at the Paterson Road end and is continuing along towards Friends Hill Road. Our contractors will work with affected residents and the racecourse to help minimise disruption as much as possible. During this work, Gladstone Road Nth will be closed to the public from Paterson Road to Puddle Alley. There will be no through access and detours will be in place.

  • Stage Three

Stage Three (shown in orange) is still currently in the planning phase and to be carried out at a later time.
