Dunedin City Council – Kaunihera-a-rohe o Otepoti

Where to park, where not to park, what to do if you get a parking infringement, parking permits and more.

The Dunedin City Council (DCC) provides fair and reasonable parking options for all road users. We aim to make it as simple as possible for all road users to find the information they need to park legally, and hopefully, find a parking space that suits their needs.

We are responsible for:

  • Vehicles that might be abandoned.
  • The disposal of unwanted vehicles.
  • Enforcement of the conditions for commercial use of footpaths in conjunction with the Trading in Public Places Bylaw.
  • Dealing with illegally parked vehicles.

We aim to ensure:

  • Vehicles are parked safely, correctly and in accordance with the law.
  • Roads are kept clear to enable safe and efficient flow of traffic.
  • On- street parking is used fairly.
  • Driver's park in the desired manner.
  • Businesses comply with the conditions for commercial use of footpaths in conjunction with the Trading in Public Places Bylaw.

To support these outcomes, we provide clear signage and guidance in parking areas throughout Ōtepoti Dunedin. This helps road users understand their responsibilities and promotes safe, fair, and lawful parking.
