About this track

Ross Creek Reservoir, constructed in 1864, is the oldest earth dam in New Zealand, and is the first major urban water supply in the country. As a result, historic features in the area are evident, with the Ross Creek Valve Tower, and local farming historic remnants. The Byre (a historic cattle shed) and an old cottage can be found on “The Byre Track” and “Craigieburn loop”. Being surrounded by native forest and part of a creek network, “School Creek track” provides submersion into native forest and an up-close view of the nearest waterfall to the city. The “Reservoir Loop” provides a flat loop around the reservoir which showcases “All from Water” a sculpture of 77 steel stars a piece by artists Katrina Thomson and Ross Sinclair. The Reservoir Loop has a flat gradient for those with accessibility needs and an accessibility carpark is located for this loop on Burma Road. The tracks are well maintained and provide options for all ages and abilities.
