Members of the public can now have their say on how much of Dunedin’s CBD should be covered by new Sunday paid parking requirements.
As part of the 9 year plan process, Council recently voted to introduce new paid parking charges on Sundays in the central city.
The change means charges will be in place seven days a week, 9am-6pm – except where signage indicates otherwise – in part of the CBD.
DCC Group Manager Transport Jeanine Benson says the DCC now wants to hear from the public about the size of the CBD zone to be covered by the new Sunday parking charges.
“It’s important to note we won’t be revisiting whether to introduce Sunday parking charges – that decision has already been made by Council, and aims to encourage parking turnover in the central city.”
Staff have identified a proposed zone to be covered by the new Sunday charges (see graphic below), which the public is welcome to give feedback on.
Prices will be consistent with fees charged on other days of the week (as listed in the below table) and highlighted on parking meters in the area.
On-street Carparks | Off-street Carparks | |

Sunday parking rate | $3.50/hour | $2.00/hour |
“It’s also important to stress free parking will remain available on Sundays outside the proposed zone,” Ms Benson says.
“We would like to hear from nearby residents and visitors to the area, as well as businesses and organisations interested in providing feedback about this proposal, so let us know what you think and whether we’ve got it right.”
