The Dunedin City Council reminds residents to reduce water consumption as power outages in Mosgiel and the Otago Peninsula continue to impact water treatment plants and wastewater pump stations.
West Taieri and Outram water treatment plants are currently affected by power outages, with wastewater pump stations in Mosgiel and the Otago Peninsula at risk of reaching capacity. Residents in these areas are urged to reduce water usage to help ease pressure on the wastewater system.
Despite the outages, water monitoring systems are fully operational, and water supplied to homes remains safe to drink.
“We’re incredibly proud of our teams working tirelessly to keep the network running under challenging conditions,” says John McAndrew, Group Manager 3 Waters. “We appreciate the community’s support while we work to minimise the effects of yesterday’s storm.”
All kerbside and landfill services have resumed this morning. Kerbside collection streets and areas not visited yesterday will have their rubbish (only) collected today. Recyclables will be collected on affected residents’ next scheduled service.
We’re also asking people to be careful in wooded areas as some trees have loose branches hanging in them, including at Fairfield Reserve. We ask members of the public to refrain from using both the Fairfield Reserve and Playground (including the skate facilities) until contractors can inspect the trees.
