Sunday parking fees come into effect in Dunedin city centre

From this Sunday, those stopping in central Dunedin will need to pay for parking as new fees come into effect.

Paid parking on Sundays in the Octagon, Moray Place, Bath Street Filleul Steet, and parts of Stuart, St Andrew, Hanover, London and Great King Streets ending at Frederick Street will come into effect this Sunday, 2 November.

This also includes DCC off-street parking locations at Great King and Filleul Streets, Lower Moray Place, Wall Street Mall and Dunedin Central Library. In the past, there were no parking fees on Sunday in the city centre.

Council agreed to introduce the paid parking charges in the central city area as part of the 9 year plan process. Further consultation with the public about what area and size of the zone to be included took place earlier in the year.

The change means charges will be in place seven days a week, 9am to 6pm – except where signage indicates otherwise – in parts of the CBD as agreed by Council. Prices will be consistent with fees charged on other days of the week and shown on parking meters and signs in the area.

Parts of George and Princes Streets will remain free of charge with time restrictions still enforced.

Users can pay via the Pay My Park app or by using the on-street parking meters. The changes will help with vehicle turnover and free up parking spaces for more customers and benefit local businesses.
