Dunedin City Council – Kaunihera-a-rohe o Otepoti

Update to DCC election result

The preliminary results for the Dunedin City Council election have been released and are available on the DCC website. The preliminary results confirm that Sophie Barker is mayor-elect with an increased margin of 726 votes over second placed mayoral candidate Andrew Simms.

Based on the latest results, there is only one change to the Dunedin City Council makeup as Mickey Treadwell has moved into the Council, and Bruce Ranga no longer in the ranking. For the community boards, there has been one change in the Waikouaiti Coast community board.

Former Councillors Andrew Whiley, Carmen Houlahan, Bill Acklin, Jim O’Malley and Kevin Gilbert have still missed out on re-election. Long-serving Councillor David Benson-Pope retired at the election.

Based on the latest preliminary results, the Council elected is:

  • Andrew Simms
  • Lee Vandervis
  • Jules Radich
  • Marie Laufiso
  • John Chambers
  • Russell Lund
  • Brent Weatherall
  • Cherry Lucas
  • Steve Walker
  • Mickey Treadwell
  • Benedict Ong
  • Mandy Mayhem
  • Doug Hall
  • Christine Garey

This may yet change as special votes have still yet to be counted, and the final results are expected by Thursday this week.

‘Whilst the release of the preliminary results has taken longer than anticipated due to the number of last day voting, I’m incredibly pleased with the voter turnout and would like to thank everyone who exercised their right to vote,’ Deputy Electoral Officer Robyn Dillon says.
