Building Services - Consent fees and charges

This page includes details of the fees and charges for building consents and a calculator to help you estimate the likely cost of your planned building work.

The following costs are indicative only and are made up of a number of components including processing costs and an assumed number of inspections. Code compliance certificate costs are additional. Further charges may also apply.

All estimates are GST inclusive.

Development Contributions

Your application may also be required to pay development contributions under the Council’s Development Contributions Policy.  For more information please ring 03 477 4000 and ask to speak to the Development Contributions Officer, or email development.contributions@dcc.govt.nz.

Please note the building consent calculator does not include development contributions.

Building consent fees and charges estimator July 2018 - June 2019

Estimate your building consent fees for work up to $700,000 in value.

  • Projects valued $20,000 and over are required to pay the BRANZ Building Research Levy set at $1.00 per $1,000 of building work.
  • Projects valued at $20,444 and over are required to pay the MBIE Building Levy set at $2.01 per $1,000 of building work.
  • BCA Accreditation Levy payable on all building consent applications including amended and staged applications ($0.30 per $1,000 of building value with a minimum fee of $6)

This levy is taken on the total value of the work.

If the building consent is to be staged or amended, the levies as above will apply to the total project value.

Fees are ONLY an estimate until confirmed by Building Services. All estimates are GST inclusive.

Residential and Commercial building applications over $700,000 are charged at the hourly rate plus administration and project information memorandum or project consideration fees.

Installation Fees will vary according to the market rate at the time of purchase of pump unit, chamber, control panel and ancillary equipment for that property. The fee will be quoted by Water and Waste Services on application.
