People living to the south and west of Dunedin mostly drive when they travel to Dunedin as this is the most viable way of travelling into the city centre. 65% of daily car trips originate from the south of the city and contribute to congestion and parking pressure in the CBD.

We are working with Otago Regional Council to make taking the bus more attractive for people travelling from Mosgiel and the surrounding area so that there is less reliance on taking a car.
To support people taking the bus, we’re proposing to provide a Park and Ride service, located in Mosgiel. We’ve had discussions with community groups, including the Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board, and we’ve surveyed the public to find out how people currently travel, how often, for what reasons and whether a Park and Ride with suitable facilities would encourage them to travel by bus.
A Park and Ride service will help to reduce traffic and keep things moving as the city grows and construction of the new Dunedin Hospital is underway.
A Mosgiel Park and Ride would be designed and located to encourage people to travel into the city centre by bus. It would be accessible for people coming by car, scooters, on foot, by bike and being dropped off/picked up.
Mosgiel is Dunedin’s main growth area, and many people take their car to the CBD every day. We want to provide people with more choices on how they travel.
We have a budget of $4.7 million. However, when we have a clearer idea of what work will be done, we will have a better idea of the cost.
