Privatising Aurora is a backward looking proposal -- a little research confirms that worldwide the privatisation of electrical infrastructure and resources has been retrogressive. Putting public resources into the hands of 'for profit' has meant that consumers suffer, and the system degrades. Just one example: in Victoria, Australia, the State Electricity Commission was privatised during the '90s; now the Commission has been resuscitated with the intention of reversing the years of privatisation. Is Dunedin going to go through such a cycle? These are the 2020's -- economic rationalism has been revealed as simply a way of transferring public wealth into private hands -- we know better now!
