It makes no sense to sell this important infrastructure asset. It is short-sited, makes no economic sense and will make us the ratepayers more susceptible to market forces. What makes the best sense is better planning by qualified people. There is currently very few council members who have the economic background and or credentials to make a decision of this magnitude. As a resident of Dunedin for 30 years our rates have been too low for decades. Instead of large jumps in rates, plan for infrastructure maintenance through regular and realistic rises in rates. A councils job is to maintain infrastructure and services. Debt levels must always be secondary. Look around the world, councils and governments carry enormous debt to care for its populations, the DCC should be no different. A recent example would be the previous NZ governments increased debt loading to get the country through COVID and beyond. As far as I’m concerned the DCC has neither has the mandate, skills on council or the authority to sell our infrastructure. Thank you
