Completely understandable that the council wants to reduce debt and raise capital with investment from the leftover proceeds of the sale.
But why do we need to sell assets that have been built up over generations of citizens for the benefit of the people of our city.
Aurora energy is responsible for delivering power across some of the fastest growing regions in New Zealand with the potential to grow even more in the years to come.
I’m sure that the council has done its homework, but my view is a resounding no.
We have had a culture in New Zealand of selling the so called family china for a number of years now, it’s time to really have a look and say enough is enough hold onto our assets as they are still of value and if managed properly will eventually bring a generous annual return to the council coffers.
