I am firmly opposed to privatisation. Previous poor management should not be an excuse in the case of Aurora. The next decade will see major issues with infrastructure and resilience in the face of economic and environmental stress.
Loss of strategic assets, including energy generation, will provide a short term financial "sugar hit" to provide the DCC with temporary wriggle room, but will shift control of the City's future to profit-driven external actors. The supposed diversified interest fund will of course be used in the near future to deal with the massive infrastructure challenges that have been ignored for decades by central and local Government.
Keep control of our strategic assets in the hands of the citizens of Dunedin.
